Classic/ Vintage Winnie the Pooh baby quilt

I started with some pictures and printed them onto

Dritz Printed Treasures sew on ink jet fabric sheets.

4 per sheet

shadow cut them out...

used wonder under to iron onto squares.

then machine stitched with dark thread just inside the edge to keep it down...

and arranged the white squares in between lots of different green squares.

machine stitched some bees and leaves on the background.

machine quilted with 2 dark squiggly lines around each square. 

a little grass on this one.

 it's bound with brown although you can't really see it here.

I did this quilt with Seaside fabrics by October Afternoon for Riley Blake in 2013.

Granny Squares Quilt

I so love that this quilt looks like granny squares.

 

to make it easy, I sewed together the strips first.

 

then crosscut them...

 

with a wider blue outside strip so you can.....

 

cut the outside of each square a little bigger - not right on the points.

this pic also shows the cute free motion quilting I did on my home sewing machine.

 

some of the fabrics are "sew cherry", some aren't

Farm Girl Vintage Strip Quilt Blocks...

They just HAD to be done on a chicken wire background.

Interject some "vintage tulips" by thimble blossoms.

couldn't decide between a row of strawberries...

and a row of floral red...

so I did both!

"Wooly Sheep" quilt blocks

I appliqued the heads on the wooly sheep instead of piecing. It seemed so much easier.

One little Piggy...

I realized later that I forgot the grass! It got into the final quilt. see that here.

I actually kind of like them without grass now that I'm comparing..

Hexie Quilt

 

Large Hexagon Quilt!

 

My tips on how to do a hexie quilt.

I lay the hexies out on a bed sheet so I can organize the whole thing. Then I can roll it up in between sewing sessions. That way I don't have to rearrange every time I get it out.

Sew together first in rows, then sew the columns together. Those pesky Y seams aren't so bad when the blocks are big.

 

I sew them together slightly differently than the tutorials I've seen. I sew all the way across the side when sewing the columns together. No back stitch or stopping 1/4" away from the corners. Then, when I'm sewing the Y seams, I leave my needle down in at the corner and just pull the next two sides flat and then sew. I find I don't need to draw dots. I can stop at the seam and eyeball where the 1/4" seam allowance would be. It works so much better for me.

 

 

 

 

Pretty machine quilting done on my juki TL2000
